Jeff is a native Oregonian. He was born in Portland in 1960 and grew up in Salem, graduating from South Salem High School in 1978, where he won the Salem Area Scholar Athletic Award that year.

After high school, Jeff attended Portland State University on a football scholarship. He was a four year starter and an integral part of the legendary Mouse Davis run-and-shoot offense. Jeff graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from PSU in 1983 with a focus on English, History, Political Science, and Psychology. Later that year, Jeff started law school at Willamette University where he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1986.

After law school, Jeff opened his own private practice in Tualatin, where he gained important trial and courtroom skills early on and made a name for himself handling employment discrimination cases against some of Oregon’s largest employers.

In 1996, Jeff moved his office to downtown Portland and was the chief trial counsel for a busy personal injury firm. Over the next six years, he was possibly Oregon’s busiest trial attorney, conducting over 100 jury trials in that period. In 2002, he opened his own practice in downtown Portland.

Biography

After commuting for several years from his home in Sherwood, Jeff moved his practice to Lake Oswego in 2006. Since then, he and his team have helped numerous businesses and individuals navigate through turbulent legal waters. When the housing and banking crisis hit hard, Jeff was one of the few attorneys in Oregon who was willing to take on the complex defense litigation against the banks and mortgage services to help Oregon homeowners fight to save their homes from foreclosure. He has been instrumental in shaping Oregon foreclosure practice, most notably with successful appeals in US Bank vs. Vettrus, 285 Or App 629 (2017) and US Bank vs. McCoy, 290 Or App 525 (2018).

With the winding down of the foreclosure crisis, Jeff has redirected his focus to business and real estate matters. He particularly enjoys working with startup and emerging companies where he can use his knowledge and skills to assist new and burgeoning businesses to better control their legal expenses, allowing them to retain their hard-earned monies for reinvestment in their own growth.

Jeff has four grown children. His son Luke was a star baseball player in college and now is raising a family in Phoenix, AZ. His daughter Alyx is a local artist and mother of two in West

Linn, OR. His son Sam is a rising star on the local hip hop scene, and his youngest, Steven was Oregon’s Player of the Year in football in 2011 and followed his dad as a Portland State Viking. Jeff lives in Lake Oswego and in his spare time enjoys the art of fly fishing which he practices with the same zeal and vigor as the practice of law.
